About Champions of Conflict
Champions of Conflict is your source for practical advice and information about becoming a better advocate in the labor grievance process. I want to give you tips that you can implement immediately to prepare your evidence and craft better arguments. This newsletter is ideal for union stewards and representatives; managers and HR representatives; and lawyers on both sides in labor arbitration.
I write this newsletter because I have many years of experience in labor arbitration as an advocate and an arbitrator, and I want to see advocates put on stronger and more effective cases. I like sharing what I know because labor arbitration is a democratic form of workplace dispute resolution that can improve labor relations in the unionized workplace.
I try to send out this newsletter once a week (usually on Tuesdays), but past issues are available on the website. For now, the newsletter is completely free! Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and publication archives. You need to register an account to comment on my posts but if you don’t want to do that, feel free to send your questions to my email address: championsofconflict@substack.com.
About Me
This newsletter is written by Andrea Dooley. I hear arbitration cases throughout California, Nevada and Alaska. I also do fact-finding, civil service hearings, mediation, and union elections. I have broad experience with parties in the public and private sectors, including healthcare, education, higher education, building services, building trades, entertainment, shipping, transportation, and service industries. I am a member of California Bar Association and a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators. Prior to becoming an arbitrator, I represented unions and trust funds and practiced as management counsel to labor organizations and nonprofits. I also have experience in labor-management partnerships, national contract negotiations, interest-based bargaining, and occupational safety and health. I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and my JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where I specialized in Labor and Employment Law. I am also a Lecturer at Berkeley Law and the author of The Beginner’s Guide to Labor Arbitration Practice and The Labor Arbitration Career.
